Overview

For the release of Unknown, Klinsmann needed more than just a single cover. He needed an image that introduced a new sound, a track that shifts gear into retro-futuristic territory, with synth-driven energy and emotional weight. Our brief was clear: create a cinematic visual identity that stops people mid-scroll and feels as intentional as the production behind the song itself.

Creative Direction

The cover had to feel like a movie still from a story only Klinsmann could tell. The sound leaned heavily on 80s-inspired synth textures layered with a sense of movement and mood, so the design had to do the same. We responded with a digital illustration built for intrigue. Exploding planets, electric colour, retro grids, and a car disappearing into a vortex. It’s a world that hints at a journey before the first lyric drops.

Visual Identity

The artwork was created with visibility and flexibility in mind. Saturated purple tones and orange accents were chosen to stand out on digital platforms. The custom typography takes inspiration from sci-fi film credits, with thick shadows and hard edges that feel sharp, futuristic, and confident. Every element was designed to scale, from Spotify thumbnails to full-screen Reels, Stories, and YouTube headers. The visual system ensures the track has a recognisable identity wherever it appears.

Why Design Matters in Music

In today’s streaming-first landscape, music artwork isn’t just decoration, it’s part of the release strategy. A strong visual identity helps artists differentiate themselves, connect with audiences, and build recognition across platforms. With Unknown, we created a look that travels with the track and deepens the emotional connection from the first impression to the final play.
